Grammy and Grandpa came to visit over President's weekend. Adelaide had a great time spending time with her grandparents playing, going to the park, and snuggling.

Dave's parent's helped us out to get Adelaide a high chair. We didn't know what to get, so Jake and Beka steered us toward this one. Adelaide wasn't so sure about it when we first put her in it...

I'm pushing hard for Adelaide to be a "girly girl" but no matter how much pink and ruffles I dress her in she just keeps doing tomboy things: like climbing up the fridge.

Earlier today I discovered that Adelaide really likes being in the sink. Who'da thunk?

And lastly, did I mention yet that she moves ALL the time??

So I guess this kind of confirms that nothing else is going on in our lives aside from Adelaide. Sorry we don't have more interesting lives, people.

Dave and I went to the Wilco concert a few weekends ago and now I can't stop singing "Remember to remember me, standing still in your past, floating fast like a hummingbird..." Dave had a wonderful time, and apparently this photo below made a lot of Dave's dreams come true.

Also, Dave got Adelaide a Wilco onesie to sport for this momentous occasion. She kind of looks like a boy.

In Adelaide news, she can now hold on to something and stand up! Don't believe it? It's true.

I mentioned in my previous post the Adelaide loves to scratch things. So I decided to clip her fingernails against her will. As I clipped the third fingernail it flew away from the finger and landed IN MY EYE. Serves me right.

Beka - I like your wordless Wednesday posts, I might try something like that. hope you don't mind that I'm stealing your idea.

Blogging is hard to keep up with! We do, however, have something blogworthy to write about.

Adelaide Grace Dorr was born on April 11th! We pretty much love her a lot and want all our family and friends to meet her. A trip back to the Northwest is in the works for some time this summer so we can introduce her to everyone.

Adelaide doesn't do much besides eat, sleep, and go to the bathroom. But, she does make these events entertaining in her own way.

Bathroom: It is difficult for Dave to change her without her peeing all over herself. She waits until he has everything clean and ready for a new diaper and then tee tee's all over new diaper, clothes, and herself. This is a lose, lose for everyone involved.

Sleeping: She wakes up tooting and grunting. She falls asleep as she alternates between a smile and a pout.

I am lucky enough to spend all day/night with Adelaide. Dave, however, is back at work and misses her like crazy. As soon as he gets home he cuddles her up in his big hands and smothers her with kisses. If he's not holding her, he is taking enough pictures of her to trigger a seizure :)

We love her a lot and are excited to see her grow and change. Hopefully we blog enough so you can all see her grow and change too!

Dave and I are so excited to share with you all that we are going to be the parents of a baby GIRL in April!! The doctor says everything looks perfect. All body parts are present and in the correct place. 3D photos to come at the end of the month. WOOO HOO!!!

Dave and I cut down a Christmas tree from the wilderness that is Basalt, CO. After 2 hours of searching, driving, hiking, huffing and puffing Dave and I found our tree! Oh it was beautiful. A Blue Spruce, perfectly shaped and ready to be decorated. Then we read our rules and regulations of the forest service: #1 No cutting down the Colorado Blue Spruce. LAME. Instead, we found a Fir tree that is a little special. It smells wonderfully Christmasy and looks just spectacular. I couldn't get the video of Dave chopping down our tree (3 inches in diameter) with an axe courtesy of Phil, but I found this picture of him taking some practice swings.

Holiday Activities

Today we received our long awaited bed frame. As "we" (Dave) prepared to take on the task of assembling the bed on this Halloween day, we started to get into the Holiday spirit. We cranked the itunes onto Pandora station "Christmas song", read the story Santa's Moose over breakfast, Christmas sweatshirts made an appearance, and Elf magically appeared on our TV. To top it off, snow! :)

We had a baby appointment today. As much as we wanted to see that little bun in my oven, they didn't let us. Instead, they put cold goo on my belly and pushed a doppler around until they found the babies heartbeat. 160 bpm. Doctor said normal heart rate is 120-160. Which means ours seems a little on the high end. What does that mean? We have a few possibilities:

1. The baby is beginning its lifelong habit of pushing boundaries, shattering limitations, and going where no baby has gone before.

2. The baby just finished 10 laps around my uterus.

3. The baby is really excited for December 15th when we get to find out if the baby is a he or a she!

Just had our 11 week appointment where we got to see our baby again!! We saw him/her turn around and move his/her little arms and legs, and just be all around adorable. The heartbeat is still the best sound in the world. If anyone knows how to get that as a ringtone, hook me up!

Last night I dreamt about a Thanksgiving feast. Unfortunately, instead of stuffing there were refried beans, and instead of turkey there was sausage. So, to make up for the Thanksgiving nightmare, Dave and I spent the day making our own little Thanksgiving dinner.

Dave and I have had some requests for pictures of our new condo, so I have taken some to put up only because we finally have something to blog about. CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE! so, in the honor of Christmas....

My parents and my brother, Matt visited us for Thanksgiving and left this morning after 5 days that went way too quickly. They were a little like the 3 wise men bringing with them many gifts. Dave and I scored an extremely generous amount of Larson honey and some tasty banana bread to go with it. They brought me some much needed bowls courtesy of crate and barrel and my mom made me a beautiful quilt for our guest bedroom (picture to follow). Dave, my brother and I skied Snowmass mountain for a day, we played many games that often turned a bit inappropriate thanks to a certain guest. Dave and I are so thankful you guys came to spend the holiday with us. We love you. Mom, you have all the pictures from your trip here so I'll have to get them from you so I can post a couple photos of what we did during your visit. But alas, photos of the condo.

Teaching reflection

Some stories:

*Dave, Moose and I were invited over "to play and spend the night" at one of my students house, by one of my students while I was teaching a math lesson. To entice me, I was assured that she could "make a really cozy bed for Moose".

*One student was grabbing himself "down there" and I asked him if he needed to use the bathroom. His response "No, I just have an itch on my penis".

*While modeling a writing activity and telling a story about taking my dog on a walk, a student piped up and said "so that's how you're so skinny!" (it really boosted my self-confidence. Seeing how the day before, a student touched my belly and asked why it felt so big. I told him it was because I did lots of sit ups. Convinced him it was all muscle. He was very impressed.

In other news, Dave and I have found renters for our Condo and will be moving up valley into a new condo in 13 days!! The best part, you have to have a security code to get in. No burglars.

We visited OREGON a few weeks back for some time at the cabin in Diamond Lake, a trip to Philomath, and a short stay in Hockinson. Did I mention we drove?

First, I just got some excellent photos from my mom that they took on their trip to our cabin in Diamond Lake over Presidents weekend.
Here are my parents in front of the cabin standing at the second level. They don't seem to be too worried about the issue of the door being buried at this point.

Now, for Dave and my President's Day weekend trip. We went to Denver where we got lost numberous times, spent way too much money, Dave used the word pretty about 25 times to describe the scenary and we watched a very off-broadway show of Beauty and the Beast. Shrek it out.
We saw wild life. I believe we saw herds of deer on numberous occasions. We saw birds, elk, that's all.
Here we are trying to pretend like we've just really enjoyed the first half of Beauty and the Beast. We could have been the actors.
After the show, we were able to take pictures with the "actors". Instead, we took pictures from afar. I know they just look like normal people, but i think that's Gaston and his sidekick in this picture.
On our way home we saw all these cars parked out on the lake.
So we got out of the car into the wind and cold and stood out there for about 1 minute. The ice looked to be about 5 feet thick. But you never know with those things. Ya know?

So. Nikki and I have been doing a bit of church hopping lately. You know how it goes: You have a basic idea of what you are looking for in a church. You want the church to be charming, you want to have some good chemistry with the church, and you want it to feel natural. Pretty much, church hopping is like blind dating. You know a little bit about the church, but as you pull into the parking lot, you can't help but judge the church by how it looks. Is this a traditional church? Is is trendy or edgy? You had spent a lot of time getting ready, and you want so badly for the day to go well. You picked out the perfect outfit. You made sure your hair was just right. Your mind is racing. You start to feel a little self-conscious. Did I overdress? As you walk through the front door, you have no idea what to expect. Will they like me? You hope to yourself that if everything else falls through, that at the least the snacks will be worth showing up for. To avoid an awkward, shallow conversation with the greeter, you head straight for the snack table. After pounding down a few donut holes, you decide to head for an unclaimed pew with coffee in hand. The usher smiles, and you politely smile back. Deep down, you are wondering if someone can really be that happy to be handing out pastel-colored church picnic announcements. You could have spent several more minutes pondering this, but you are distracted by a smell. Now, let's be honest. Every church has a smell. It is usually something pleasant, but overpowering: potporri, a large, vanilla candle, or maybe some insense. Whatever the smell, you can be sure it was put there by some well-meaning old lady, and it definitely is not subtle. In spite of it all, you sit down in your pew, and you begin to look around. WHERE ARE ALL THE PEOPLE? You decide that you must have come on an 'off-night'. All of a sudden, a man begins to walk up to the podium. It's the pastor. You can't help but wonder, could he be the one?...

So, pretty much, we are still looking for a church. In other news, Nikki still has no friends in Colorado (except her 2nd graders), and really isn't trying that hard. She seems to be bonding with the 40-somethings who teach at her school. There could be something there. As for me, I keep on working too many hours at the office, while miraculously finding time to trade stocks online, risking money we can't afford to lose. Other than that, this is probably the last time I will ever write a blog, because it ended up pretty long, and only about one sixth as funny as it was in my head before I wrote it.

SNOW DAY!!

This morning Dave and I woke up, got ready for the day, he left for work and just as I'm about to head out the door, he calls and tells me the Roaring Fork School District is closed. So...first day of classes: cancelled. For the occasion, I shall update the blog about our roadtrip.

We left last Friday morning at about 6:00, and at around 7:30 Dave and I began a list of things that we learned along the way. Here is the list:

Things Nikki learned:
1. Sun rises as approximately 7:30 am in December.
2. Interstate hwy. #'s are built on a system - even goes E-W and odd goes N-S.
3. The jetta can hold more than you would think.
4. Bridges are icey because air is moving underneath them.

Things David learned:
1a. You have to hold the handle on the air pump in order for air to pump into the tires.
1b. Quarters don't grow on trees.
2. Don't teach the teacher.
3. One spray of aqua diegio is plenty.

"Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot"

We've had a busy 2.5 weeks. A marriage, a honeymoon, a holiday, and a move to Colorado. The wedding went by very quickly, but we had an awesome time. Pete did a great job marrying us, Uncle Mark DJed like it was 1999, and we partied hardy.

After the wedding we woke up the next morning at 3 to go to the airport, where we realized our tickets were never purchased. Oops. We ended up buying tickets about 30 minutes prior to take off and asked a guy to give up a window seat on a 4.5 hour fight so we could sit next to each other. Once landed, our flight to Belize was delayed an hour and we missed our final flight to the resort by about 15 minutes. The airline paid for a "romantic" night at their "finest" hotel in Belize city where the showers were temperature sensative, the beds were on wheels and the TV remotes required a $60 deposit. Upside? We had a pretty cool taxi drive.

After catching our flight the next morning to Kanantik, the honeymooning began. It consisted of sun, sunburns, hiking (in the rain), waterfalls, kayaking, snorkling, bugs, bug bites, scorpions, swimming, eating, humidity, and culture dances. Overall, we had a great time on our honeymoon and are very excited to spend our lives together.

After driving a straight 21 hours from Brush Prairie to Carbondale, we are settled at our place. Although Dave lost the keys to both his cars today, so...yea.

9 days to thanksgiving

For those of you who didn't know (and i'm assuming that's most) I got a single wisdom tooth pulled this weekend. I didn't want to be put under, for obvious reasons, but that was a mistake. Here is how my Saturday appointment went: First, Dave calls and gets me all riled up with talk of some poor planning "I" did for the wedding weekend. Next, I go to my appointment and pretty much freak out. So before they even do anything, I'm crying. I'm shaking, I'm scared, they numb me. That does little to calm my nerves if you can imagine, so they decide to hook me up to some laughing gas. Then they start the surgery. So I'm laying there with huge sunglasses on to protect me from the light, a tube strapping me from the nose to the back of the chair that I have to breathe out of and I'm watching the whole thing happen in the reflection of my dentist's glasses. Mid-surgery I start to hyperventilate and I'm crying all over again and after a little while the surgery is over. So, if you're thinking of having oral surgery without being put out, learn from my mistake. This is the injury. Slightly swollen. But the real reason for posting this picture is the light blue fleece. I learned this weekend that when I'm sick, I don't like to change my clothes. I pretty much lived in this fleece from Friday night to Tuesday afternoon. On a positive note, this temporary handicap gave me the opportunity to do one of my favorite things: a puzzle!!!

You can't really tell from the picture but it was supposed to be a 1000 piece puzzle. Unfortunately, it only turned out to be 997.

Earlier in the week I received further proof that I need a puppy. This happened when I went to babysit and they surprised me with yet another little one i could watch. A 6 week yellow lab. You'll want to see the pic, so here it. *sigh*

I thought I would throw this picture in for good measure. Michael (my oldest brother) got pretty dirty at work on Monday and proceeded to go to the gym with my dad like this so he didn't have to shower twice. In Dave news, he spent the weekend in Denver visiting a couple of his friends from College I think. On Sunday he was supposed to go to his first ever hockey game. Boy was he excited. So you can only imagine how disappointed he was when plans changed and he was left alone, with no hockey tickets in a big city. He enjoyed dinner and a movie solo and then crashed at Ben's friend's house. So to answer your question, yes, Dave is still living the dream out in Colorado. He'll be in town next Tuesday and we are so excited to see everyone again for Thanksgiving!

Little has happened since the last post. But, there are a few highlights:

First? Halloween. My roomie and I went trick or treating as a blackberry and a blueberry. After an evening of taking candy from houses, the week continued with a visit from our very own David Dorr. We wined, we dined and we lived it up in Washington for the weekend. In 2 days we fit in: a night out with nat and julia, a trip to salem, cider weekend in vancouver, Nat and Julia's adorable puppies, engagement photos, trip to seattle to see grandma, pit stop at the lake house to see the fam, a quick shopping spree in woodburn, and a 4:30 am wake-up call to go to the airport where Dave and my dad were on the same flight out to Denver. We missed the Dorr campout this weekend (which I heard was all the rave) to play scrabble, garage sale, carve pumpkins, and shop for furniture.

This weekend I flew to Colorado (courtesy of the wonderful Barbara Olson) for Dave's uncles 40th birthday party....and to see Dave. I was thinking of writing something witty and fun to sum up the weekend, but I think the pictures speak for themselves.

My mom sent our local newspaper (The Reflector) a picture of Dave and myself and included a little write up to announce our engagement. Although we did some proof-reading before sending it off, it appears that The Reflector did not. Either that, or I really am marring someone named Charles Dorr.
We'd like to give credit to Barbara Olson who was kind enough to supply us with this photo after doing a photo shoot for Dave and I at Sarah and Chris' wedding : )

On a side note, Phil went to Aspen this week to visit Dave and Ben and amongst all the fun, got Dave sick. If anyone out there has a heart, please send Dave your heartfelt get wells, as he is in need of a little sympathy.

Smell This, Weird Airport Guy!!!

So in the previous post, Nik made it sound like we had the perfect weekend. Yeah, I guess it came close, but because of the incidences described below, I left the Northwest with mixed memories.

1) Right after Nikki tasted my beer at the BLR on Saturday night, she looked me straight in the eye with a sour expression on her face and told me that the taste made her want to cry. Well, Nikki, that story makes me want to cry.

2) At the Aspen Airport, there was a terrorist. He was a middle-aged white man who stood 7 feet tall, had me by at least a hundred pounds, breathed quite heavily, and went well out of his way to repeatedly smell me. Thats right, big, onimous whiffs in between statements like "wow, that is great cologne, what is that?" and "no, really, that can't just be Old Spice deoderant." That was Friday, and four days later, I have yet to put on deoderant.

3) Nikki refused to let me drive her 2000 Red VW Jetta that has a vanity plate that says "NIKSTER". The car has a manual transmission, and at the age of 22 and 3/4, I am becoming increasingly self-conscious of not having achieved competancy on a stick shift. Nikki knows this, and she did a great job of prolonging my suffering.

All things considered, Team Dikki got the job done this weekend. Our next adventure together will be in Colorado in the near future. Speaking of Colorado, I have seen bears in the Aspen City Limits on 5 of the last 7 days I have been in town. I try and keep my wristrocket close by.

Dave visits Oregon

Dave came to sunny Salem to visit his truely this weekend. I picked him up Friday night and we hung out until Monday morning at 5:15 AM when I dropped him off at the airport. We dined, we chatted, we watched a movie, we saw family, and we are in love. The pictures may speak better.

Here we are having our first date in three weeks. I went big and hit up Newport Bay. We were sat infront of a lovely painting that would have made a perfect puzzle.

Dave and i enjoyed a day at Riverfront Park where we tanned, ate watermelon, played frisbee, and looked at magazines. I was the only one in a bikini. and there was a child's birthday party going on. I should have thought that through...

Last, but not least. Dave and I rented a movie from McDonalds. For only a dollar!! Here's Dave getting a steal of a deal on Blades of Glory in his new outfit he bought earlier that day at the Salem Center :)
All in all, we had a fun weekend. Got to see his parents, his immediate siblings, and that beka chick. We also took a drive up to Washington and stayed with my family. Now all we have to do is wait 3 more weeks and we can do this all over again. Only in Colorado. I miss you, baby!!

An update for our fans

First off, Dave and I are now residing in different states until December (thought it would be more dramatic than just waiting to see the Bride until she walks down the isle). The family I nanny for was kind enough to supply me with two webcams and I decided to give one to Dave, so although we can't be in the same place, we can still see and talk to one another. We have yet to try it out.

Okay, on to the more important aspects of our lives...

Dave and I did go through with the condo thing. 1. because it was the cheapest thing we could find and 2. dave needs a place to live sooner than later. So, Dave and I will be living in Carbondale, CO. For anyone who wants to drop by unannounced, there is a spare bedroom for you with your name on it.

As for wedding news, we have booked a photographer, a florist, the places, and I found my dress this weekend!!! Things are looking up...

This is the living room. I guess that's about all I can say about this one.

The long and narrow hallway that leads to the guest bed and bath and the master bed and bath. What I wish we would have gotten a picture of were the framed E-bay awards they had all along that hallway.

Hidden beneath the rainforest of plants you can see a glimpse of a wood fire place that may or may not be there. Only time will tell.

This picture may look pointless to the unobservant eye - but look closer and you see a strange collection of string on the lip of the ceiling. I am clueless as to what that is about. But I'm curious.

The kitchen. Notice the classy wallpaper on the back wall. That's gonna be fun for Dave to take off. Also note: the white rice is cooking right at the front of the picture. Fate?

Yesterday Dave and I visited our potential condo and snapped pictures of everything, with plans to change it all. The best thing about these pictures is that the family living here hasn't moved out yet, so now everyone who visits our blog can see into their lives. I just hope we got a picture of the white rice that looked like it had been cooking since last week.

More information for those who requested it. This condo is located in Carbondale, very close to main street. We have to decide if we want it by the 16th of this month. If we go through with it, Dave can begin moving in and renovating the first week in October.

I used the term "home" loosely because as you can see from the photo, this is not one huge, odd home or a dormitory, but actually a single condo within this building. We went under contract yesterday to buy and are pretty sure that with a lot of updating and paint to mask the smell of the rice that the family living there previously cooked nightly, it will eventually be more home-like. Upside? only one, somewhat small guest room so people you don't want to stay too long, won't.
